One of the most important and often overlooked parts to a externally wet sump system is the oil pan pickup design. We here at Peterson have engineered a pickup that we try to sell with every one of our single stage or wet/vac oil pumps. It includes a big 1" OD tube with hand welded pick up box and pan stand off already welded up. We make them in both steel and aluminium to accommodate whatever material your current oil pan is fabricated out of.
